Blue Smokey Eye + Glossy Fashion Look

I found this simple blue smokey eye look on my laptop but can't remember when i did it.

I did this look tonight.  I wanted to do glossy skin. Frowning because I am over exhausted.  Been up since 6am friday and it's now almost 1am saturday. :(

Illamasqua Lip Pallet

I love my Illamasqua lip pallet.  I got it in the January sales, I got so much stuff in the sales I'm only getting around to trying it out now.  The pallet contains some of their best selling lip shades: Corrupt, Over, Plunge and Fable - a rose pink, mauve pink, coral pink and bright pink.

These are great matte shades and the packaging is fab.  The lipsticks also have great staying power, but I found them a bit drying...though my lips are always dry.

Some of the shades might not suit certain skin tones, but I'm sure everybody will find something in it to suit them.  I personally didn't buy it to use on myself, so hopefully I will get some good use out of it.  It was really great value, the Illamasqua lipsticks are great and a little goes a long way.

Here's 2 quick simple looks I did.  I didn't have enough time tonight to do 4. :-(

Corrupt
 Fable

I just threw on some of my Yaby Eye shadows.  I used greens in the top pic and yellows on the bottom and just applied them with my fingers. I lined my eyes with MAC carbon eye shadow to give some soft definition.  I applied the lipstick with my ring finger.  I just find it quick and more natural looking.   Also, all my brushes are dirty this evening and I'm too lazy to clean them.  It's not really visible in the pictures, but I was wearing NYX long lash mascara in electric blue, just to try something different.

Sunday 20 January 2013

Ol' Boo Radley never came out of his house.

I used up the rest of those paper flowers I got for 1 euro in a craft shop in a fit of boredom last night.  I was also trying on an amazing fur coat a friend gave to me the other day.  This look was really unplanned, and I hadn't intended it to look like this at the outset.  I'm really bad at planning.  I was thinking of Frida Kahlos hair with the flowers in it, because I saw a photo of her on my facebook news feed.  But clearly this looks nothing like Frida Kahlo.   The lips are overdrawn, I really love big lips.  I'm just waiting for lip fillers to go on special offer on living social so i can afford them. :-))

Foundation:  Rich Liquid Foundation (I've been using this a lot for playing around with looks because I accidentally bought 2 of them instead of one on the website.  It's great coverage, but obviously a rich liquid foundation won't look natural.).
Eyes: Inglot black gel liner, MAC carbon eye shadow, SOPHIE pencil by Illamasqua.
Lips: MAC Eye Kohl (Resort), Illamasqua lipstick (i think it's Resist but it could be Underworld the name has worn off the bottom).  I dabbed one of my Yaby satin eye shadows over the lips, it really made them pop.
Contour: Plum du Bois by MAC.

And here's the look that developed into the look above.  I used the brown shadows in my Yaby pallet.  I have to say, i kinda prefer my Yaby neutrals to my MAC ones.  I think i need to buy more Yaby shadows soon.

Polka Dot Lips

Using Illamasqua Cream Eyeshadow in blue (i can't find it on the website i'm not sure they sell it anymore?) but you could maybe use their medium pencil in Debonair either + inglot waterproof gel liner.

Red/White

I'm going through a red phase.  I did this with the white Illamasqua cream foundation, red lipstick and a sponge.  Very simple.  I did it in a few minutes, it looks very unfinished.  I'm not sure what I was doing it's kinda whacky.  When i get these ideas i just do them straight away because my memory is a bit defective.  I'm sure some people will find it awful.  But i like the (un)finished look.  I might do it again sometime and develop it.

Red Eye Shadow

I've been searching for a good red eye shadow for so long.  I think people tend to avoid it because it is a bit too edgy or perhaps feel it makes them look sickly.  It's definitely not for everyone, it's quite dramatic.  But I think it can look amazing, if you find the right red for your skin tone.  For example, if you have a lot of red in your skin you should probably avoid the very bright shades.  You'll look like a tomato unless you have concealed the redness in your skin.  Stick to browny reds, it won't be as severe as a pinky red.  If you have skin with yellowish undertones a vibrant red would look amazing.
Red Head
I had a lot of trouble finding a nice red, I have  pinky red Barry M Dazzle Dust called Cherry Red.  But i prefer using pressed eye shadows because the Dazzle Dusts are so messy.  But then I stumbled on NYX's Red Head and Extreme Apricot.  I got a huge haul of their products in the January sale, I bought both of these.
Extreme Apricot
When I use red I don't want it to look wearable.  I think it looks best as a block of colour.  Blending in other colours to dilute it really misses the point.

The NYX reds are great, i didn't need to use a base for the look below.  The products are so vibrant and went on easily.  Although I generally don't like make-up "rules", i think red gives more of an editorial look and wouldn't advise wearing it every day.  I used MAC electric eel underneath the eye too, I'm not sure why I did that...i thought it looked nice.  And the brows...well...they were an accident.  Bit I like those too.  I might do them again.  I put some of the NYX jumbo pencil in Milk on the lips.  I love white lips, I think they look really tribal and fun, not as scary as they sound.

1970s Woodstock Bridal

This is a photoshoot i did in college with my friend Siobhan.  I wanted her to look like a 1970s woodstock hippy bride.  I'm awful at hair so I just got a GHD and threw some paper flowers in that I bought in a crafts shop for 1 euro.  I should have used real flowers, but I was so sick the day of the shoot i just wanted to get it done.  I had been off work for 3 days.  I was running around the studio with a pressed powder in one hand and a 2 litre bottle of dioralyte in the other.  Glamorous.
